Welcome to this edition of the remote-backups.com newsletter where I want to share updates and news around the platform which you might have missed!

First on the list is namespace support. You can now create and delete namespaces for your datastore directly in the Dashboard, without needing to contact support!

Next up are recommended backup times. If you can, pick one of these recommended time frames - those are the ones where historically there have been the least number of backups. That way you get the fastest speed because the hardware is the least used.

Last on the list is the switch to API Token authentication for PVE & PBS. This is done to reduce load on the hosts by reducing the steps necessary to validate a request. If you are affected, you have received an email beforehand.
The old authentication credentials will be invalidated on the 3rd of July, so update them if you didn't already!

New Location Hamburg now open!

Hamburg - New Location now open!

Hello ,

I'm doubling down on my commitment to provide affordable offsite backups for everyone by opening another point of presence in Hamburg, northern Germany.

This new point of presence is in partnership with NMMN, a company focusing on managed hosting, cloud, and infrastructure.

The new host ham1-1 is located in their HAM1 Datacenter near Hamburg, a state-of-the-art facility that was recently opened at the end of 2023 and is operated by AtlasEdge.

Providing about 250 TB of storage, there is plenty of space to safely store your backups, allowing for growth in the future.

This investment shows that I'm serious about providing a reliable service that people want to use and trust. remote-backups.com was not planned as a summer project and is here to stay for many, many years to come.

What changes now? Pretty much nothing—new datastores will soon be created in Hamburg. If your datastore continuously grows, it might be migrated to ham1-1 automatically in the future. You can also reach out via ticket and request a manual migration if the location offers a geographical advantage for you.

Welcome to the first iteration of the bennetgallein.de newsletter, where I want to take a few minutes to talk about new features in my products and highlight a few blog posts that might be interesting for you.

ProxmoxCP

Release-wise, not much has happened, but behind the scenes, a lot is changing. I’ve started working on multi-cluster support, which will enable you to add multiple clusters to your installation, group them by custom tags, and offer customer options during the order process.

Classless rDNS

I’ve dipped my feet into classless rDNS delegation, which is basically about delegating rDNS to other nameservers for all different sizes of subnets, not exclusively for byte-boundaries. Check out the full post here.

EVPN SDN

I’ve also checked out EVPN to use for VXLAN, which you can read more about here—it’s really awesome!

IP Spoofing

Securing infrastructure is important, even more so if your customers are using it. I’ve written about IP spoofing, what it is, and how you can mitigate it—manually or using the event system in the ProxmoxCP. Check out the post here.
